Ashwin
आश्विन
Ashwin is the seventh month of the Hindu lunar calendar, coinciding with the beautiful Sharad Ritu (Autumn). It is a highly festive month, dominated by the nine-day worship of Goddess Durga (Navaratri) and the celebration of Lord Rama's victory over Ravana (Dussehra).
Sanskrit
आश्विन मास (Āśvina Māsa)
The Month of Shakti and Victory
Named after the Ashvini Nakshatra, this month celebrates the triumph of good over evil through the worship of the Divine Mother (Shakti).
Occurring in September and October, Ashwin brings clear skies and a pleasant drop in temperature after the heavy monsoons. The full moon of this month usually aligns with the Ashvini Nakshatra. The first half (in Purnimanta) is dedicated to ancestors (Pitru Paksha), while the second half explodes into vibrant festivities, culminating in Diwali the following month. It is a period of immense spiritual empowerment and physical rejuvenation.
