महा उपनिषद का पूरा श्लोक कहता है: 'अयं निजः परोवेति गणना लघुचेतसाम्, उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुंबकम्'। यानी—यह मेरा है, वह उसका है, ऐसा संकीर्ण सोच वाले कहते हैं। उदार चरित्र वालों के लिए पूरी पृथ्वी ही एक परिवार है।

The full verse from the Maha Upanishad states: 'Ayam nijah paroveti ganana laghuchetasam, udaracharitanam tu vasudhaiva kutumbakam'. This translates to: 'This is mine, that is his, say the small-minded. For those of noble character, the entire world is but one family.'
