The King of the Forest

The midday sun was blazing high over the dusty country path, and eight-year-old Tanmay wiped beads of sweat from his forehead. He was walking home from the weekly farmers' market with his grandfather, carrying a basket of ripe mangoes.

दोपहर का सूरज कच्ची सड़क पर चमक रहा था, और आठ साल का तन्मय अपने माथे का पसीना पोंछ रहा था। वह अपने दादाजी के साथ साप्ताहिक बाजार से पके हुए आमों की टोकरी लिए घर लौट रहा था।

Up ahead, at a bend in the road, a magnificent green canopy spread across the horizon like a giant, protective green umbrella.

आगे रास्ते के मोड़ पर, एक विशाल हरा-भरा पेड़ किसी दयालु रक्षक की तरह आसमान में फैला हुआ दिखाई दिया।

'Come, Tanmay,' Dadaji said with a relieved smile. 'Let us rest under the shade of the ancient Vat Vriksha.'

'आओ तन्मय,' दादाजी ने राहत भरी मुस्कान के साथ कहा। 'चलो, इस प्राचीन वट वृक्ष की शीतल छांव में थोड़ा विश्राम कर लें।'

The moment they stepped beneath the sprawling green canopy of the great Banyan tree, the scorching heat vanished. A cool, refreshing breeze whispered through the thick emerald leaves. High above, colorful birds chirped, squirrels scampered along winding branches, and dozens of aerial roots hung down like sturdy wooden ropes, firmly anchoring themselves into the earth.

जैसे ही वे बरगद के पेड़ की विशाल छत्रछाया के नीचे आए, बाहर की चिलचिलाती धूप और गर्मी पल भर में गायब हो गई। घने हरे पत्तों के बीच से एक ठंडी, सुखद हवा बह रही थी। ऊपर डालियों पर चिड़ियाँ चहक रही थीं, गिलहरियाँ दौड़ रही थीं, और अनगिनत लटकती हुई जड़ें मजबूत लकड़ी के खंभों की तरह जमीन में समाई हुई थीं।

Tanmay touched one of the thick hanging roots that had grown as wide as a tree trunk itself. 'Dadaji, this doesn't look like just one tree—it looks like a whole village of trees holding hands!'

तन्मय ने एक लटकती हुई मजबूत जड़ को छुआ, जो खुद एक तने जितनी मोटी हो चुकी थी। 'दादाजी, यह सिर्फ एक पेड़ नहीं लगता—ऐसा लगता है जैसे पेड़ों का एक पूरा गांव एक-दूसरे का हाथ थामे खड़ा हो!'

Dadaji sat on the raised stone platform circling the trunk and smiled peacefully. 'That is why the Banyan is called Akshaya—the eternal tree. It never stops growing and supporting others. Its branches reach wide, drop new roots into the soil, and create endless shelter for tired travelers, birds, and animals.'

दादाजी तने के चारों ओर बने पत्थर के चबूतरे पर बैठे और शांत भाव से मुस्कुराए। 'इसीलिए बरगद को अक्षय यानी अमर वृक्ष कहा जाता है। यह कभी बढ़ना बंद नहीं करता। इसकी शाखाएं दूर-दूर तक फैलती हैं, नई जड़ें जमीन में जाती हैं, और यह थके हुए मुसाफिरों, पक्षियों और छोटे जीवों को अंतहीन छांव देता है।'

'Our traditions say that Lord Shiva and the wisest sages love to sit beneath the Banyan tree because it embodies selfless giving,' Dadaji continued softly. 'It gives cool air, shelter, and life to thousands, and it asks for nothing in return.'

'हमारे शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि भगवान शिव और ज्ञानी ऋषि बरगद की छांव में ध्यान लगाते हैं, क्योंकि यह निस्वार्थ सेवा का प्रतीक है,' दादाजी ने प्यार से समझाया। 'यह हजारों जीवों को आश्रय, जीवन और शुद्ध वायु देता है, और बदले में कभी कुछ नहीं मांगता।'

Tanmay rested his back against the wide, cool trunk, feeling safe and sheltered. 'When I grow up, Dadaji, I want to be like the Banyan tree—strong, kind, and always ready to give shelter and help to those who need it.'

'दादाजी, जब मैं बड़ा और मजबूत हो जाऊंगा, तो मैं भी इस बरगद की तरह बनूंगा—हमेशा दूसरों को सहारा और मदद देने के लिए तैयार।'

Dadaji placed a warm hand on Tanmay's shoulder, his eyes crinkling with joy as the ancient tree sheltered them beneath its eternal green roof.

दादाजी ने तन्मय के कंधे पर स्नेह भरा हाथ रखा, और उस विशाल प्राचीन वृक्ष ने दोनों को अपने अमर आंचल में समेट लिया।
