The Secret of the Glowing Diya

In a small village, a little girl was afraid of the dark. When the sun went down, she would cry. Her mother brought a small clay lamp with cotton wicks and oil—a Diya (दीपक).

एक छोटे से गाँव में, एक छोटी बच्ची को अंधेरे से डर लगता था। सूरज ढलते ही वह रोने लगती थी। उसकी माँ रुई की बत्ती और तेल के साथ मिट्टी का एक छोटा सा दीपक लाई।

As soon as the mother lit the match, a small, bright golden flame danced in the room. Suddenly, the darkness in the whole room disappeared! The little girl stopped crying and smiled.

जैसे ही माँ ने माचिस जलाई, कमरे में एक छोटी, चमकीली सुनहरी लौ नाचने लगी। अचानक, पूरे कमरे का अंधेरा गायब हो गया! छोटी बच्ची ने रोना बंद कर दिया और मुस्कुरा दी।

Her mother said, 'You see? Darkness is huge, but it is very weak. A single tiny flame of light is enough to destroy it.'

उसकी माँ ने कहा, 'देखा तुमने? अंधेरा बहुत बड़ा है, लेकिन यह बहुत कमजोर है। प्रकाश की एक छोटी सी लौ ही इसे नष्ट करने के लिए काफी है।'

In our religion, light represents Knowledge (ज्ञान), and darkness represents Ignorance (अज्ञान). When we light a Diya before God, we are praying: 'O Lord, please remove the darkness of bad thoughts from my mind and fill it with the light of wisdom.'

हमारे धर्म में, प्रकाश ज्ञान का प्रतीक है, और अंधकार अज्ञान का। जब हम भगवान के सामने दीपक जलाते हैं, तो हम प्रार्थना कर रहे होते हैं: 'हे भगवान, कृपया मेरे मन से बुरे विचारों के अंधकार को दूर करें और इसे ज्ञान के प्रकाश से भर दें।'

There is also a beautiful rule about the flame. Have you noticed? No matter how you tilt the Diya, the flame always points upwards towards the sky! It teaches us that no matter what problems push us down, our thoughts and our soul should always aim high towards God.

लौ के बारे में एक सुंदर नियम भी है। क्या आपने ध्यान दिया है? आप दीपक को कितना भी झुका लें, लौ हमेशा आसमान की ओर ही इशारा करती है! यह हमें सिखाता है कि चाहे कोई भी समस्या हमें नीचे धकेले, हमारे विचार और हमारी आत्मा हमेशा भगवान की ओर ऊंचे लक्ष्य रखने चाहिए।
