The Secret of the Orange Hero

In the royal palace of Ayodhya, the morning sun poured through marble archways. Lord Rama was busy in the council chamber, while in her inner quarters, Mother Sita was seated before a golden mirror, preparing for the morning prayers.

अयोध्या के राजमहल में संगमरमर के झरोखों से सुबह की सुनहरी धूप आ रही थी। भगवान राम राजसभा में व्यस्त थे, जबकि माता सीता अपने कक्ष में शीशे के सामने बैठकर पूजा की तैयारी कर रही थीं।

Curious and devoted as always, Hanuman padded softly into the room and saw Mother Sita applying a neat line of bright orange powder—Sindoor—into the parting of her hair.

सदा की तरह सेवा भाव से भरे हनुमानजी धीरे से कक्ष में आए और उन्होंने देखा कि माता सीता अपनी मांग में चमकीले नारंगी सिंदूर की एक सुंदर रेखा सजा रही थीं।

Hanuman tilted his head with child-like curiosity. 'Mata, what is that bright orange powder you are putting in your hair? Why do you apply it every day?'

हनुमानजी ने बच्चों जैसी उत्सुकता से अपना सिर झुकाया। 'माता, यह नारंगी रंग का चूर्ण क्या है जिसे आप अपने बालों में लगा रही हैं? आप इसे रोज क्यों लगाती हैं?'

Mother Sita smiled tenderly at Hanuman's innocent question. 'This is Sindoor, my son. By applying it, I pray for your Lord Rama's long life, good health, and eternal prosperity. It brings happiness to his heart.'

माता सीता हनुमान की इस भोली बात पर मुस्कुराईं। 'यह सिंदूर है, मेरे पुत्र। इसे लगाने से तुम्हारे प्रभु श्रीराम की आयु लंबी होती है, उनका स्वास्थ्य अच्छा रहता है और उनका कल्याण होता है।'

Hanuman's eyes widened in wonder. His devoted mind began calculating at lightning speed: 'If a tiny pinch of orange powder on Mata's forehead can protect my Lord Rama and give him a long life, what would happen if I covered my entire body with it?'

हनुमानजी की आंखें आश्चर्य से बड़ी हो गईं। उनके भक्त मन ने तुरंत विचार किया: 'यदि माता के माथे पर चुटकी भर सिंदूर लगाने से प्रभु राम की रक्षा हो सकती है, तो क्या होगा यदि मैं अपने पूरे शरीर पर ही सिंदूर मल लूँ?'

Without telling anyone, Hanuman rushed to the palace storeroom, emptied an entire bowl of bright vermilion Sindoor, mixed it with fragrant oil, and smeared it over every inch of his fur—from the tip of his ears down to his tail!

किसी को बताए बिना हनुमानजी भंडार गृह में पहुंचे, सिंदूर का बड़ा पात्र उठाया और अपने कानों की नोक से लेकर पूंछ तक पूरे शरीर पर नारंगी सिंदूर मल लिया!

When Hanuman walked proudly into the royal court, completely orange from head to toe, the courtiers were stunned into silence. Lord Rama looked at his devoted monkey friend, surprised, and asked, 'Hanuman! Why are you covered entirely in orange?'

जब हनुमानजी सिर से पैर तक पूरी तरह नारंगी होकर राजसभा में पहुंचे, तो सभी दरबारी दंग रह गए। भगवान राम ने अपने इस प्यारे सखा को देखा और पूछा, 'हनुमान! यह क्या रूप बना रखा है? पूरे शरीर पर सिंदूर क्यों लगा लिया?'

Hanuman bowed with absolute innocence: 'Mata Sita said a tiny pinch protects your life, Lord. So I covered my whole self so you will live forever and ever!'

हनुमानजी ने बड़ी मासूमियत से हाथ जोड़े: 'प्रभु, माता सीता ने कहा कि चुटकी भर सिंदूर से आपकी आयु बढ़ती है। इसलिए मैंने पूरा शरीर रंग लिया ताकि आप हमेशा-हमेशा के लिए अमर और सुरक्षित रहें!'

Tears of immense love welled up in Lord Rama's eyes. Laughing with boundless affection, Rama wrapped his orange-covered devotee in a warm, tight embrace. From that day, Hanuman is lovingly adorned with saffron-orange Sindoor, a radiant symbol of pure, unconditional love.

भगवान राम की आँखों में प्रेम के आंसू छलक आए। वे भावविभोर होकर हंसे और अपने इस सिंदूरी भक्त को कसकर गले से लगा लिया। उस दिन से हनुमानजी को सिंदूर चढ़ाने की परंपरा शुरू हुई, जो उनकी निस्वार्थ और अनन्य भक्ति का प्रतीक है।
