The Ten Days of Celebration

Ganesh Chaturthi is the festival that celebrates the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed God of wisdom. People bring beautiful idols of Ganesha into their homes and treat him like a very special guest for ten days.

गणेश चतुर्थी वह त्योहार है जो बुद्धि के हाथी के सिर वाले देवता भगवान गणेश का जन्मदिन मनाता है। लोग गणेश की सुंदर मूर्तियाँ अपने घरों में लाते हैं और दस दिनों तक उनके साथ एक बहुत ही खास मेहमान की तरह व्यवहार करते हैं।

During these days, Ganesha is offered his favorite sweet—the **Modak**. It is a steamed dumpling filled with coconut and jaggery. It is said that Ganesha is so happy when he eats Modaks that he grants all the wishes of his devotees!

इन दिनों में, गणेश को उनकी पसंदीदा मिठाई- **मोदक** अर्पित की जाती है। यह नारियल और गुड़ से भरा एक उबला हुआ गुलगुला है। कहा जाता है कि मोदक खाने पर गणेश इतने खुश होते हैं कि वे अपने भक्तों की सभी इच्छाएं पूरी कर देते हैं!

After ten days of singing, dancing, and praying, it is time to say goodbye. This is called **Visarjan**. The idol is taken to a river or the sea and gently placed in the water. We shout 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!', which means 'O Father Ganesha, come back early next year!'

दस दिनों के गायन, नृत्य और प्रार्थना के बाद, विदा कहने का समय आता है। इसे **विसर्जन** कहा जाता है। मूर्ति को नदी या समुद्र में ले जाया जाता है और धीरे से पानी में रख दिया जाता है। हम चिल्लाते हैं 'गणपति बप्पा मोरया, पुढच्या वर्षी लवकर या!', जिसका अर्थ है 'हे पिता गणेश, अगले साल जल्दी आना!'

But why do we put the idol in water? It's a lesson from nature. The idol is usually made of clay (earth). When it goes into the water, it dissolves and becomes part of the earth again. It reminds us that Ganesha is always with us in our hearts, even if we can't see the idol!

लेकिन हम मूर्ति को पानी में क्यों डालते हैं? यह प्रकृति का एक सबक है। मूर्ति आमतौर पर मिट्टी (पृथ्वी) से बनी होती है। जब यह पानी में जाती है, तो यह घुल जाती है और फिर से पृथ्वी का हिस्सा बन जाती है। यह हमें याद दिलाता है कि गणेश हमेशा हमारे दिल में हमारे साथ हैं, भले ही हम मूर्ति न देख सकें!
