Navratri: The Nine Nights of Power
“Why do we celebrate Navratri for nine nights and dance Garba? 💃🏽🦁”
Once, there was a very arrogant demon named Mahishasura. He could change his shape into a giant, scary buffalo! He prayed very hard and got a special magical blessing: no man or God could ever defeat him.
एक बार महिषासुर नाम का एक बहुत ही घमंडी राक्षस था। वह अपना आकार बदलकर एक विशाल, डरावना भैंस बन सकता था! उसने बहुत कठिन तपस्या की और एक विशेष जादुई वरदान प्राप्त किया: कोई भी मनुष्य या देवता उसे कभी नहीं हरा सकता।
Thinking he was unbeatable, Mahishasura started attacking the heavens and troubling all the innocent people. The Gods were helpless because of the magic blessing.
खुद को अजेय समझकर, महिषासुर ने स्वर्ग पर हमला करना और सभी मासूम लोगों को परेशान करना शुरू कर दिया। जादुई वरदान के कारण देवता असहाय थे।
So, all the Gods joined their powers together. From their combined bright light, a beautiful and incredibly powerful Goddess was born—Mata Durga! Since she was a woman, the demon's blessing could not protect him from her.

Mata Durga rode a fierce lion and had ten hands, each holding a powerful weapon given by the Gods. She challenged Mahishasura to a battle.

The battle was terrible and lasted for nine long days and nine nights. Mahishasura kept changing his shape from a buffalo to an elephant to a lion, but Mata Durga fought bravely. Finally, on the tenth day, she defeated the evil buffalo demon forever!
यह युद्ध भयानक था और नौ लंबे दिनों और नौ रातों तक चला। महिषासुर भैंस से हाथी और शेर में अपना रूप बदलता रहा, लेकिन माता दुर्गा ने बहादुरी से लड़ाई लड़ी। अंत में, दसवें दिन, उन्होंने दुष्ट भैंस राक्षस को हमेशा के लिए हरा दिया!
We celebrate these nine nights of her brave battle as Navratri (Nine Nights), and we dance with joy! The tenth day is called Dussehra or Vijayadashami, the day of victory.
