Navratri: The Nine Nights of Power

For centuries, the cosmic balance was shattered by the water buffalo demon, Mahishasura. Having earned a boon that no man could vanquish him, the shape-shifting tyrant drove the devas out of heaven and spread sorrow across the earth.

सदियों तक महिषासुर नाम के भैंसे जैसे असुर ने तीनों लोकों में अत्याचार मचा रखा था। यह वरदान पाकर कि कोई भी पुरुष उसे नहीं मार सकता, उसने देवताओं को स्वर्ग से निकाल दिया और चारों ओर त्राहि-त्राहि मचा दी।

In their hour of desperate need, the gods combined their supreme radiant energies, creating Goddess Durga. Clothed in shimmering golden robes and armed with sacred divine gifts—Shiva’s trident, Vishnu’s discus, and Indra’s thunderbolt—she mounted a courageous golden lion.

संकट के समय सभी देवताओं ने अपने तेज को एक किया, जिससे साक्षात मां दुर्गा का प्राकट्य हुआ। चमचमाते सुनहरे वस्त्र पहने, शिव के त्रिशूल, विष्णु के चक्र और इंद्र के वज्र से सुसज्जित होकर वे अपने गर्जते सिंह पर सवार हुईं।

For nine intense days and nights, the cosmic battle raged upon the slopes of the mountains. Mahishasura shifted frantically from a roaring lion to a giant elephant, and finally into a monstrous iron-horned buffalo, hurling mountains and storming the skies.

नौ दिनों और नौ रातों तक पर्वतों की तलहटी में भीषण युद्ध चला। महिषासुर ने रूप बदल-बदल कर कभी हाथी, कभी शेर और कभी विशाल भैंसा बनकर हमले किए।

With serene focus and unmatched courage, the Divine Mother countered every illusion, holding the demon at bay through nine arduous nights of struggle. Finally, on the tenth dawn, she pinned the beast down and pierced his heart with her sacred trident, restoring harmony to the cosmos.

शांत मन और असीम साहस के साथ मां दुर्गा ने उसकी हर माया को समाप्त कर दिया। अंततः दसवें दिन की भोर में उन्होंने अपने त्रिशूल से उस अहंकारी असुर का संहार कर दिया और संसार में पुनः धर्म की स्थापना की।

Those nine sacred nights of courage became the festival of Navratri, culminating in the triumphant tenth day of Vijayadashami (Dussehra). It reminds every child that when we confront anger, greed, and laziness with patience, virtue will always prevail.

वे नौ पावन रातें नवरात्रि का महापर्व बन गईं, और दसवां दिन विजयादशमी (दशहरा) कहलाया। यह पर्व हमें सिखाता है कि जब हम अपने भीतर के आलस्य, क्रोध और बुराई से लड़ते हैं, तो जीत हमेशा अच्छाई की होती है।
