The Elephant God's Birthday

Ganesh Chaturthi is a grand 10-day festival celebrating the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the God of wisdom and new beginnings. It is said that during these ten days, Ganesha comes down to Earth to bless all his devotees.

गणेश चतुर्थी एक भव्य 10-दिवसीय त्योहार है जो ज्ञान और नई शुरुआत के देवता भगवान गणेश के जन्मदिन के उपलक्ष्य में मनाया जाता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि इन दस दिनों के दौरान, गणेश जी अपने सभी भक्तों को आशीर्वाद देने के लिए पृथ्वी पर आते हैं।

We bring beautiful clay idols of Ganesha into our homes and temples. We treat him like a very special royal guest! We offer him his favorite sweets (Modaks), sing songs, and decorate him with bright flowers.

हम अपने घरों और मंदिरों में गणेश जी की सुंदर मिट्टी की मूर्तियाँ लाते हैं। हम उनके साथ एक बहुत ही खास शाही मेहमान की तरह व्यवहार करते हैं! हम उन्हें उनकी पसंदीदा मिठाई (मोदक) चढ़ाते हैं, गीत गाते हैं, और उन्हें चमकीले फूलों से सजाते हैं।

But the most interesting part happens on the last day, called Visarjan. We take the beautiful clay idol and immerse it in a river or ocean! But why do we sink our beloved God?

लेकिन सबसे दिलचस्प हिस्सा आखिरी दिन होता है, जिसे विसर्जन कहा जाता है। हम मिट्टी की सुंदर मूर्ति लेते हैं और उसे नदी या समुद्र में विसर्जित कर देते हैं! लेकिन हम अपने प्यारे भगवान को क्यों डुबो देते हैं?

There is a deep secret behind this. When we make the idol from clay, it represents his physical body. When we sink it in the water, the clay dissolves back into nature. This teaches us that the physical form is temporary, but the supreme energy (God) is formless and eternal.

इसके पीछे एक गहरा रहस्य है। जब हम मिट्टी से मूर्ति बनाते हैं, तो यह उनके भौतिक शरीर का प्रतिनिधित्व करती है। जब हम इसे पानी में डुबोते हैं, तो मिट्टी वापस प्रकृति में घुल जाती है। यह हमें सिखाता है कि भौतिक रूप अस्थायी है, लेकिन सर्वोच्च ऊर्जा (भगवान) निराकार और शाश्वत है।

As the clay washes away, we chant 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!' which means 'O Lord Ganesha, please come back again next year!' We learn to let go of our attachments with happiness, knowing that God is always in our hearts.

जैसे ही मिट्टी धुलती है, हम 'गणपति बाप्पा मोरया, पुढच्या वर्षी लवकर या!' का जाप करते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है 'हे भगवान गणेश, कृपया अगले वर्ष फिर से जल्दी आएं!' हम खुशी के साथ अपने मोह को छोड़ना सीखते हैं, यह जानते हुए कि भगवान हमेशा हमारे दिलों में हैं।
