The Light of Knowledge

On the bright, luminous full moon morning of the month of Ashadha, nine-year-old Aarav sat at his desk carefully crafting a colorful handmade greeting card. In neat handwriting, he wrote: 'Thank you for lighting the candle of knowledge in my heart.'

आषाढ़ मास की पूर्णिमा की एक उजली सुबह, नौ साल का आरव अपनी मेज पर बैठकर बड़े प्यार से एक रंगीन ग्रीटिंग कार्ड बना रहा था। उसने सुंदर अक्षरों में लिखा: 'मेरे मन में ज्ञान का दीप जलाने के लिए आपका धन्यवाद।'

His grandfather walked in and smiled warmly: 'Getting ready for Guru Purnima, Aarav?'

उसके दादाजी कमरे में आए और मुस्कुराकर बोले: 'गुरु पूर्णिमा की तैयारी कर रहे हो, आरव?'

'Yes, Dadaji!' Aarav beamed. 'I am making this for my school teacher and my music teacher. But why is this festival celebrated on a full moon day?'

'हां, दादाजी!' आरव ने खुशी से कहा। 'मैं यह अपने स्कूल के शिक्षक और संगीत गुरुजी के लिए बना रहा हूँ। लेकिन यह त्योहार पूर्णिमा के दिन ही क्यों मनाया जाता है?'

Dadaji sat beside him and explained gently. 'Look at the full moon, Aarav. In the dark night, the moon shines bright and clear, dispelling all shadows. A true teacher (Guru) is like that full moon. In Sanskrit, Gu means the darkness of ignorance, and Ru means the light that dissolves it.'

दादाजी उसके पास बैठे और प्यार से समझाया। 'पूर्णिमा के चांद को देखो, आरव। रात के घने अंधेरे में चांद अपनी शीतल चांदनी से सारा अंधकार मिटा देता है। एक सच्चा गुरु भी उस पूर्ण चंद्रमा की तरह होता है। संस्कृत में गु का अर्थ है अज्ञान का अंधेरा, और रु का अर्थ है उस अंधेरे को मिटाने वाला प्रकाश।'

'This day also marks the birthday of Sage Ved Vyasa,' Dadaji added, 'the great master who gathered and arranged the Vedas and gifted the Mahabharata to the world. When we thank our teachers, we honor the ancient lineage of guides who teach us how to think, how to read, and how to be kind.'

'यह दिन महान महर्षि वेदव्यास का जन्मदिवस भी है,' दादाजी ने आगे कहा, 'जिन्होंने वेदों को संकलित किया और महाभारत जैसा अनमोल ग्रंथ दिया। जब हम अपने गुरुओं का आदर करते हैं, तो हम उस ज्ञान की परंपरा को नमन करते हैं जो हमें पढ़ना, सोचना और नेक इंसान बनना सिखाती है।'

Aarav looked at his card with deep respect. He couldn't wait to present it to his teacher with a warm smile and folded hands.

आरव ने अपने बनाए कार्ड को बड़े आदर से देखा। वह मुस्कुराते हुए हाथ जोड़कर अपने गुरुजी को यह भेंट देने के लिए उत्सुक हो गया।
