Why is Lord Ganesha Worshipped First?

On the serene, sun-dappled snow peaks of Mount Kailash, little Ganesha and his elder brother Kartikeya were playing. Kartikeya was swift and energetic, often riding his splendid peacock through the clouds. Little Ganesha was calm and observant, enjoying a sweet laddoo while chatting with his tiny companion, Mooshak the mouse.

कैलाश पर्वत की शांत और सुनहरी बर्फीली चोटियों पर, छोटे गणेश और उनके बड़े भाई कार्तिकेय खेल रहे थे। कार्तिकेय बहुत तेज और फुर्तीले थे, और अक्सर अपने सुंदर मोर पर बैठकर बादलों में सैर करते थे। छोटे गणेश शांत और समझदार थे, जो अपने नन्हें साथी मूषक से बातें करते हुए मीठे लड्डू का आनंद ले रहे थे।

One morning, a divine, radiant fruit of supreme wisdom was offered to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. Both brothers wished to have it. Lord Shiva smiled with a twinkle in his eyes and set a playful contest: 'Whoever circles the entire world three times and returns first will receive this sacred fruit of wisdom.'

एक सुबह, भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती को परम ज्ञान का एक दिव्य और चमकीला फल भेंट किया गया। दोनों भाई उसे पाना चाहते थे। भगवान शिव ने मुस्कुराते हुए एक प्रतियोगिता रखी: 'जो कोई भी पूरी दुनिया का तीन बार चक्कर लगाकर सबसे पहले लौटेगा, उसे यह ज्ञान का पावन फल मिलेगा।'

Before the words had barely settled, Kartikeya leaped onto his swift peacock and took off like a shooting star! Whoosh!

बात पूरी होते ही, कार्तिकेय अपने फुर्तीले मोर पर सवार हुए और टूटते तारे की तरह तेजी से उड़ गए! वूह!

Little Ganesha looked down at Mooshak. The tiny mouse squeaked softly, knowing they could never match the speed of a flying peacock. But Ganesha did not panic. With a peaceful smile, he paused and thought with his deep intellect.

छोटे गणेश ने नीचे मूषक की ओर देखा। नन्हा चूहा धीरे से चीं-चीं करने लगा, यह जानते हुए कि वे एक उड़ते मोर की गति का मुकाबला कभी नहीं कर सकते। लेकिन गणेश घबराए नहीं। वे शांत भाव से मुस्कुराए और अपनी गहरी बुद्धि से विचार किया।

Ganesha walked gently toward his parents, bowed his head, and began to circle Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati with utmost reverence. One circle... two circles... three circles.

गणेश धीरे-धीरे अपने माता-पिता की ओर बढ़े, सिर झुकाया और अत्यंत श्रद्धा के साथ भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती की परिक्रमा करने लगे। एक चक्कर... दो चक्कर... तीन चक्कर।

Lord Shiva looked down, surprised. 'My child, why are you circling us instead of racing across the oceans and mountains?'

भगवान शिव ने आश्चर्य से देखा। 'मेरे बच्चे, तुम समुद्रों और पहाड़ों की दौड़ लगाने के बजाय हमारी परिक्रमा क्यों कर रहे हो?'

Ganesha folded his hands and replied with profound sweetness: 'My beloved parents, you gave me life, love, and wisdom. For me, you are my entire universe. In walking around you, I have already circled the whole world.'

गणेश ने हाथ जोड़े और बड़ी मिठास से उत्तर दिया: 'मेरे प्यारे माता-पिता, आपने मुझे जीवन, प्रेम और ज्ञान दिया है। मेरे लिए आप ही मेरा पूरा ब्रह्मांड हैं। आपकी परिक्रमा करके मैंने पूरी दुनिया का चक्कर लगा लिया है।'

Tears of joy welled in Mata Parvati's eyes, and Lord Shiva smiled with immense pride. When Kartikeya flew back, breathless from his cosmic journey, he saw little Ganesha holding the fruit, smiling warmly.

माता पार्वती की आँखों में खुशी के आंसू छलक आए, और भगवान शिव का हृदय गर्व से भर गया। जब कार्तिकेय अपनी लंबी यात्रा से थककर लौटे, तो उन्होंने देखा कि छोटे गणेश हाथ में फल लिए मुस्कुरा रहे थे।

Deeply moved by Ganesha's wisdom and devotion, Lord Shiva blessed him: 'Because your heart holds such profound love and understanding, you shall be Pratham Pujya—revered before every auspicious beginning in the world.'

गणेश की बुद्धिमानी और भक्ति से अभिभूत होकर भगवान शिव ने उन्हें आशीर्वाद दिया: 'चूंकि तुम्हारे हृदय में ऐसा गहरा प्रेम और समझ है, इसलिए तुम प्रथम पूज्य कहलाओगे—संसार में हर शुभ कार्य से पहले तुम्हारी ही पूजा होगी।'
