The Monkey Who Blocked the Path
“What happens when the strongest monkey meets the strongest warrior? 🐒🆚💪”
During the era of the Mahabharata, the Pandava brothers were living in exile in the deep Himalayan forests. Bhima, the second brother, was renowned across the earth for his colossal physical power—having the strength of ten thousand elephants. However, this unmatched strength had slowly made him proud.
One afternoon, as Bhima was walking along a narrow mountain trail to fetch rare celestial flowers for Queen Draupadi, he found his path blocked. Lying across the dusty path was an old, scruffy monkey with graying fur, fast asleep with its long tail stretched right across the trail.
Impatient and proud, Bhima tapped his heavy iron mace and called out, 'Step aside, old monkey! Do you not know who I am? I am Bhima, the mighty prince! Step aside or jump over you I will!'
The old monkey slowly opened one weary eye and spoke in a feeble voice: 'I am too old and weak to move, noble warrior. It is considered disrespectful to step over another being. If you must pass, kindly push my tail aside with your hand.'
Bhima smirked, bending down to flick the tail aside with his left pinky finger. To his shock, the tail did not budge! Frowning, Bhima grabbed it with his entire hand and pulled. It was as heavy as a mountain peak!
Sweat poured down Bhima's forehead. He planted his boots into the stone and strained with all his legendary might, but he could not lift the tail even a fraction of an inch. Breathless, his pride shattered, Bhima fell to his knees with folded hands. 'Forgive me, great soul! Who are you? You cannot be an ordinary monkey.'
The old monkey smiled and transformed into the glowing, majestic form of Lord Hanuman. 'I am your elder spiritual brother, Hanuman, son of the Wind God,' he said with immense warmth, embracing the humbled prince. 'Never let strength breed arrogance, Bhima. True power is adorned only by humility.'
Moral Lesson
“Strength is useless if it is mixed with pride and arrogance.”
Message for Families
Bhima represents raw physical power, while Hanuman represents power combined with devotion and humility. The story teaches that spiritual strength is always heavier and greater than physical strength.
