The Tiny Helper of the Great Bridge

To reach Lanka, Lord Rama's army had to build a massive bridge of stones over the ocean. Giant monkeys like Hanuman were lifting huge rocks and throwing them into the water. 'Jai Shri Ram!' they shouted.

लंका पहुँचने के लिए, भगवान राम की सेना को समुद्र पर पत्थरों का एक विशाल पुल बनाना था। हनुमान जैसे विशाल वानर बड़ी-बड़ी चट्टानें उठा रहे थे और उन्हें पानी में फेंक रहे थे। 'जय श्री राम!' वे चिल्ला रहे थे।

In the middle of all this, Hanuman noticed a tiny squirrel. The squirrel was running to the beach, rolling in the sand, and then running to the bridge to shake the sand off between the big rocks. Then, it would pick up a tiny pebble in its mouth and drop it in the water.

इस सब के बीच, हनुमान ने एक छोटी गिलहरी को देखा। गिलहरी समुद्र तट की ओर दौड़ रही थी, रेत में लोट रही थी, और फिर बड़े पत्थरों के बीच रेत झाड़ने के लिए पुल की ओर दौड़ रही थी। फिर, वह अपने मुँह में एक छोटा सा कंकड़ उठाती और उसे पानी में डाल देती।

Hanuman laughed. 'Little squirrel, what are you doing? These giant monkeys are moving mountains, and you are just bringing sand and pebbles. You are getting in our way!'

हनुमान हँसे। 'छोटी गिलहरी, तुम क्या कर रही हो? ये विशाल वानर पहाड़ों को हिला रहे हैं, और तुम सिर्फ रेत और कंकड़ ला रही हो। तुम हमारे रास्ते में आ रही हो!'

The squirrel looked up with tears in its eyes. 'I know I am small, but I love Lord Rama too. I want to help as much as I can.'

गिलहरी ने अपनी आँखों में आँसू भरकर ऊपर देखा। 'मुझे पता है कि मैं छोटी हूँ, लेकिन मैं भी भगवान राम से प्यार करती हूँ। मैं जितनी हो सके उतनी मदद करना चाहती हूँ।'

Lord Rama was watching. He picked up the tiny squirrel in his hand and told Hanuman, 'Hanuman, do not laugh at her. Her small pebbles are filling the gaps between your big rocks. Without her, the bridge would not be strong. It is not the size of the stone that matters, but the size of the love in the heart.'

भगवान राम देख रहे थे। उन्होंने नन्ही गिलहरी को अपने हाथ में उठाया और हनुमान से कहा, 'हनुमान, उस पर मत हँसो। उसके छोटे कंकड़ तुम्हारी बड़ी चट्टानों के बीच की दरारों को भर रहे हैं। उसके बिना, पुल मजबूत नहीं होता। पत्थर का आकार मायने नहीं रखता, बल्कि दिल में प्यार का आकार मायने रखता है।'

Lord Rama then gently stroked the squirrel's back with his fingers. It is said that the three white stripes on squirrels today are the finger marks of Lord Rama's blessing!

भगवान राम ने फिर धीरे से अपनी उंगलियों से गिलहरी की पीठ थपथपाई। कहा जाता है कि आज गिलहरियों पर जो तीन सफेद धारियाँ हैं, वे भगवान राम के आशीर्वाद की उंगलियों के निशान हैं!
