A Friendship More Valuable Than Gold

A long time ago, Krishna and Sudama were students in the same school (Gurukul). They were the best of friends and shared everything. But as they grew up, Krishna became the powerful King of Dwarka, while Sudama remained a very poor man living in a tiny hut.

बहुत समय पहले, कृष्ण और सुदामा एक ही स्कूल (गुरुकुल) में छात्र थे। वे सबसे अच्छे दोस्त थे और सब कुछ साझा करते थे। लेकिन जैसे-जैसे वे बड़े हुए, कृष्ण द्वारका के शक्तिशाली राजा बन गए, जबकि सुदामा एक छोटी सी झोपड़ी में रहने वाले एक बहुत गरीब आदमी ही रहे।

Sudama was so poor that his family often didn't have enough to eat. One day, his wife said, 'Why don't you visit your old friend Krishna? He is a King! He will surely help us.'

सुदामा इतने गरीब थे कि उनके परिवार के पास अक्सर खाने के लिए पर्याप्त भोजन नहीं होता था। एक दिन, उनकी पत्नी ने कहा, 'आप अपने पुराने दोस्त कृष्ण के पास क्यों नहीं जाते? वह राजा है! वह निश्चित रूप से हमारी मदद करेगा।'

Sudama didn't want to ask for money, but he missed his friend. He decided to go. But he couldn't go empty-handed! He took a small bag of Poha (flattened rice), which was all they had left.

सुदामा पैसे नहीं माँगना चाहते थे, लेकिन उन्हें अपने दोस्त की याद आ रही थी। उन्होंने जाने का फैसला किया। लेकिन वे खाली हाथ नहीं जा सकते थे! उन्होंने पोहा (चिउड़ा) की एक छोटी सी पोटली ली, जो उनके पास बचा हुआ सब कुछ था।

When Sudama reached the giant golden palace, the guards were surprised. But as soon as Krishna heard Sudama was there, he ran out barefoot to hug his friend! He washed Sudama's feet with his own hands and sat him on his throne.

जब सुदामा विशाल सोने के महल में पहुँचे, तो दरबारी हैरान रह गए। लेकिन जैसे ही कृष्ण ने सुना कि सुदामा आए हैं, वे अपने दोस्त को गले लगाने के लिए नंगे पैर दौड़ पड़े! उन्होंने अपने हाथों से सुदामा के पैर धोए और उन्हें अपने सिंहासन पर बिठाया।

Sudama was shy about his small gift of Poha. He tried to hide it. But Krishna grabbed the bag and started eating it with joy. 'This is the tastiest gift ever!' he said.

सुदामा पोहे के अपने छोटे से उपहार को लेकर शरमा रहे थे। उन्होंने इसे छिपाने की कोशिश की। लेकिन कृष्ण ने पोटली छीन ली और उसे बड़े चाव से खाने लगे। 'यह अब तक का सबसे स्वादिष्ट उपहार है!' उन्होंने कहा।

Sudama spent a few days with Krishna but never asked for any help. He felt so happy just seeing his friend. When he returned to his village, he was shocked! His tiny hut was gone, and in its place was a giant, beautiful mansion filled with food and riches.

सुदामा ने कृष्ण के साथ कुछ दिन बिताए लेकिन कभी कोई मदद नहीं मांगी। वे अपने दोस्त को देखकर ही बहुत खुश थे। जब वे अपने गाँव लौटे, तो वे हैरान रह गए! उनकी छोटी झोपड़ी गायब थी, और उसकी जगह भोजन और धन से भरा एक विशाल, सुंदर महल था।

Krishna had understood Sudama's silence and helped his friend without even being asked. That is the power of true friendship!

कृष्ण सुदामा की चुप्पी समझ गए थे और बिना मांगे ही अपने दोस्त की मदद कर दी थी। यही सच्ची दोस्ती की ताकत है!
