The Secret Behind The Makhan Chor

In the beautiful village of Gokul, little Krishna (Kanha) lived with his mother Yashoda. Mother Yashoda made the most delicious butter in the world.

गोकुल के सुंदर गाँव में, छोटे कृष्ण (कान्हा) अपनी माँ यशोदा के साथ रहते थे। माँ यशोदा दुनिया का सबसे स्वादिष्ट माखन बनाती थीं।

But little Kanha wasn't happy just eating his own butter. He loved to gather his friends, sneak into the houses of the Gopis (the village women), and steal their freshly churned butter! He would eat some, feed some to his friends, and even feed the monkeys!

लेकिन छोटे कान्हा सिर्फ अपना माखन खाकर खुश नहीं थे। उन्हें अपने दोस्तों को इकट्ठा करना, गोपियों (गाँव की महिलाओं) के घरों में छिपकर घुसना और उनका ताजा मथा हुआ माखन चुराना बहुत पसंद था! वह कुछ खुद खाते, कुछ अपने दोस्तों को खिलाते, और यहाँ तक कि बंदरों को भी खिलाते थे!

The Gopis would try to hide the butter. They hung the pots high up near the ceiling. But Kanha was too smart! He and his friends would make a human pyramid, reach the pot, break it, and enjoy the sweet treat.

गोपियाँ माखन को छिपाने की कोशिश करती थीं। वे मटकियों को छत के पास ऊँचाई पर टांग देती थीं। लेकिन कान्हा बहुत चतुर थे! वह और उनके दोस्त एक मानव पिरामिड बनाते, मटकी तक पहुँचते, उसे फोड़ते, और मीठे माखन का आनंद लेते।

When the Gopis complained to Mother Yashoda, 'Your Kanha is a Makhan Chor (Butter Thief)!', Yashoda would get angry, but Kanha would make an innocent face. 'Maiya, I didn't eat it!'

जब गोपियाँ माँ यशोदा से शिकायत करतीं, 'तुम्हारा कान्हा माखन चोर है!', तो यशोदा क्रोधित हो जातीं, लेकिन कान्हा एक मासूम चेहरा बना लेते। 'मैया मोरी, मैं नहीं माखन खायो!'

But why did God steal butter?

लेकिन भगवान ने माखन क्यों चुराया?

The butter (Makhan) represents the human heart. Just as milk must be churned hard to become pure butter, a human heart becomes pure through good deeds and devotion. The Gopis loved Krishna so much that their hearts were pure. By stealing their butter, Krishna was actually accepting their pure love!

माखन मानव हृदय का प्रतीक है। जिस प्रकार दूध को मथकर ही शुद्ध माखन प्राप्त होता है, उसी प्रकार मानव हृदय भी अच्छे कर्मों और भक्ति से शुद्ध होता है। गोपियाँ कृष्ण से इतना प्यार करती थीं कि उनके दिल शुद्ध थे। उनका माखन चुराकर, कृष्ण वास्तव में उनके शुद्ध प्रेम को स्वीकार कर रहे थे!
