The Eye of Wisdom

On a bright morning in the temple courtyard, eight-year-old Dev sat with his grandmother watching the temple priest prepare sandalwood paste. Looking closely at the marble murti of Lord Shiva, Dev noticed a vertical third eye carved right into the center of the Lord's forehead.

मंदिर के प्रांगण में एक सुबह, आठ साल का देव अपनी दादी के साथ बैठा पुजारीजी को चंदन घिसते देख रहा था। भगवान शिव की संगमरमर की मूर्ति को ध्यान से देखते हुए देव ने उनके माथे के ठीक बीच में एक तीसरा नेत्र बना देखा।

'Dadi,' Dev whispered, touching his own forehead, 'we all have two eyes to see trees, books, and friends. Why does Lord Shiva have a third eye? Does it always shoot fire like in the stories?'

'दादी,' अपने माथे को छूते हुए देव ने धीरे से पूछा, 'हमारे पास तो दुनिया देखने के लिए दो ही आंखें हैं। भगवान शिव के पास यह तीसरा नेत्र क्यों है? क्या इससे हमेशा आग की लपटें निकलती हैं?'

Dadi smiled and placed her warm hand over Dev's hands. 'Our two physical eyes, Dev, see only the outside world—colors, shapes, and material things. But Shiva's third eye is the eye of Jnana—the eye of inner wisdom and truth.'

दादी मुस्कुराईं और उन्होंने देव के हाथों पर अपना हाथ रखा। 'देव, हमारी दो आंखें केवल बाहर की दुनिया देखती हैं—रंग, रूप और भौतिक चीजें। लेकिन शिवजी का तीसरा नेत्र ज्ञान और सत्य की आंख है।'

'Once,' Dadi explained, 'when Kamadeva, the god of desire, tried to distract Shiva from his meditation with superficial illusions, Shiva briefly opened his third eye. The fiery beam of pure awareness burned away the illusion in an instant, showing that truth shatters all false appearances.'

'एक बार,' दादी ने समझाया, 'जब कामदेव ने शिवजी की तपस्या को भटकाने की कोशिश की, तो शिवजी ने अपना तीसरा नेत्र खोला। उस ज्ञान की अग्नि ने अज्ञान और मोह को पल भर में भस्म कर दिया, यह दिखाते हुए कि सच्चा ज्ञान सारे भ्रम मिटा देता है।'

'So the third eye does not shoot anger,' Dadi said softly. 'It destroys ignorance, jealousy, and selfishness. When you learn to look past anger and see the goodness in people, you too are opening your own little third eye of wisdom.'

'इसलिए यह तीसरा नेत्र क्रोध का नहीं,' दादी ने कहा। 'बल्कि अज्ञान, ईर्ष्या और बुराई को मिटाने का प्रतीक है। जब तुम गुस्से को छोड़कर सही और गलत की पहचान करते हो, तो तुम भी अपने भीतर की समझ की तीसरी आंख खोलते हो।'

Dev smiled, feeling the cool sandalwood paste on his forehead, promising to always see the world with kindness and wisdom.

देव मुस्कुराया और अपने माथे पर लगे चंदन की ठंडक को महसूस करते हुए, उसने हमेशा विवेक और सच्चाई की राह पर चलने का मन बनाया।
