The Simple God on the Snowy Peak

On a pleasant summer evening, eight-year-old Neil was looking through a colorful book of Hindu mythology with his grandfather. He noticed pictures of Lord Indra sitting in a glittering heavenly palace of diamonds, and Lord Vishnu resting upon a majestic golden ocean couch.

गर्मी की एक सुहानी शाम, आठ साल का नील अपने दादाजी के साथ भारतीय पौराणिक कथाओं की एक सचित्र पुस्तक देख रहा था। उसने देखा कि देवराज इंद्र हीरों के चमकते महलों में बैठे हैं और भगवान विष्णु क्षीरसागर में शेषनाग की सुनहरी शैय्या पर विश्राम कर रहे हैं।

Turning the page, Neil paused. 'Dadaji, look at Lord Shiva! He is the Supreme Lord of the universe, yet he sits barefoot on a cold, snowy rock atop Mount Kailash, wearing simple tiger skin! Why does he choose a lonely mountain instead of a golden palace?'

पन्ना पलटते ही नील रुक गया। 'दादाजी, भगवान शिव को देखिये! वे तो पूरे ब्रह्मांड के स्वामी हैं, फिर भी वे किसी सोने के महल के बजाय कैलाश पर्वत की बर्फीली चट्टानों पर बाघंबर ओढ़कर नंगे पैर क्यों बैठते हैं?'

Dadaji smiled warmly, closing the book. 'A palace has thick stone walls, Neil, which keep people outside. But Mount Kailash has no walls at all—it belongs to the entire universe! Lord Shiva teaches us that true majesty does not lie in hoarding gold, silk, and jewels.'

'The snowy peaks of Kailash represent pure, undisturbed stillness,' Dadaji explained softly. 'Shiva is completely detached from worldly greed. He is just as happy on a quiet mountain as anywhere else, welcoming sages, simple cowherds, animals, and seekers alike without any guards at the gate.'

'कैलाश की बर्फीली चोटियां शांत और असीम शांति का प्रतीक हैं,' दादाजी ने प्यार से समझाया। 'शिवजी सांसारिक लोभ और दिखावे से पूरी तरह मुक्त हैं। वे शांत पर्वत पर भी उतने ही प्रसन्न रहते हैं, और बिना किसी पहरेदार के संतों, ग्वालों, पशुओं और भक्तों का समान रूप से स्वागत करते हैं।'

Neil smiled, gazing out at the evening sky with newfound understanding. 'So Shiva lives on Kailash to show us that peace and simplicity are far richer than any palace in the world?' Dadaji nodded proudly, giving him a warm hug.
