Catching a River from the Sky
“How did a mighty river fall from the sky and get trapped in Mahadev's hair? 🌊🪮”
A long time ago, the holy river Ganga only flowed up in heaven. But on Earth, a great King named Bhagiratha prayed for thousands of years to bring her down to purify the ashes of his ancestors.
बहुत समय पहले, पवित्र नदी गंगा केवल स्वर्ग में बहती थी। लेकिन पृथ्वी पर, भगीरथ नाम के एक महान राजा ने अपने पूर्वजों की राख को शुद्ध करने के लिए उन्हें नीचे लाने के लिए हजारों वर्षों तक प्रार्थना की।
Goddess Ganga agreed to come down, but there was a huge problem! She was so large and powerful that if she fell directly from the sky, her heavy waters would crack the Earth open and wash everything away!
देवी गंगा नीचे आने के लिए सहमत हो गईं, लेकिन एक बहुत बड़ी समस्या थी! वह इतनी विशाल और शक्तिशाली थी कि अगर वह सीधे आकाश से गिरती, तो उसका भारी पानी पृथ्वी को चीर देता और सब कुछ बहा ले जाता!
King Bhagiratha was terrified. He prayed to Lord Shiva, the only one strong enough to handle her force. Lord Shiva smiled and agreed to help.
राजा भगीरथ डर गए। उन्होंने भगवान शिव से प्रार्थना की, जो उनकी शक्ति को संभालने के लिए पर्याप्त मजबूत थे। भगवान शिव मुस्कुराए और मदद के लिए सहमत हो गए।
As the mighty Ganga roared down from heaven with great pride, Lord Shiva stood calmly and opened his thick, matted hair (Jata). The giant river crashed directly into his hair!
जैसे ही शक्तिशाली गंगा बड़े गर्व के साथ स्वर्ग से नीचे गरजी, भगवान शिव शांति से खड़े रहे और अपने घने, उलझे हुए बाल (जटा) खोल दिए। विशाल नदी सीधे उनके बालों से टकराई!
Instead of destroying the Earth, Ganga got completely lost inside Shiva's infinite hair. Her anger and pride vanished. Then, Lord Shiva gently opened one small lock of his hair, and the river flowed out slowly and peacefully onto the Earth.
पृथ्वी को नष्ट करने के बजाय, गंगा शिव के अनंत बालों के अंदर पूरी तरह से खो गई। उसका क्रोध और अहंकार गायब हो गया। फिर, भगवान शिव ने धीरे से अपने बालों की एक छोटी सी लट खोली, और नदी धीरे-धीरे और शांति से पृथ्वी पर बहने लगी।
That is why you will always see a tiny spout of water shooting out from Lord Shiva's hair in his pictures. He is also lovingly called Gangadhara, the one who holds the Ganga.
यही कारण है कि आप हमेशा भगवान शिव के चित्रों में उनके बालों से पानी की एक छोटी सी धार निकलते हुए देखेंगे। उन्हें प्यार से गंगाधर (गंगा को धारण करने वाला) भी कहा जाता है।

Ganga represents flowing knowledge. If knowledge comes too fast with ego, it destroys. When it is filtered through the calm mind of the Guru (Shiva), it brings life.
