The King of the Night and the Lord of Kailash

In ancient times, Chandra, the glowing Moon God, was blessed with dazzling beauty and cool, silver light. But his radiant appearance filled his heart with vanity, and he began acting with pride and neglecting his duties.

प्राचीन काल में, चंद्र देव को अत्यंत सुंदर रूप और शीतल चांदनी का वरदान मिला था। लेकिन अपने रूप के कारण उनके मन में घमंड आ गया और वे अपने कर्तव्यों की उपेक्षा करने लगे।

Because of his thoughtless behavior, Sage Daksha uttered a severe curse upon the Moon: 'May your silver brilliance waste away day by day until you vanish entirely into darkness!'

उनके इस अनुचित व्यवहार के कारण राजा दक्ष ने उन्हें श्राप दे दिया: 'तुम्हारा यह चमकीला रूप दिन-प्रतिदिन क्षीण होता जाएगा जब तक कि तुम पूरी तरह अंधेरे में गायब न हो जाओ!'

Day by day, the Moon’s light dwindled. His silver orb shrank into a slender, trembling crescent, and his body was racked with weakness. Stripped of all pride and realizing his mistake, Chandra fled across the lands seeking shelter, but no one could lift the sage's curse.

दिन-ब-दिन चंद्रमा की रोशनी घटती गई। उनका गोल चक्र सिमटकर एक पतला सा कांपता हुआ टुकड़ा रह गया और वे बहुत कमजोर हो गए। उनका सारा घमंड मिट गया और वे रक्षा की गुहार लगाते हुए भटके, लेकिन कोई भी उस श्राप को नहीं हटा सका।

Finally, Chandra reached the western coast at Prabhas (Somnath), weeping and praying to Lord Shiva. Moved by the Moon's sincere repentance and suffering, compassionate Shiva appeared before him.

अंत में चंद्रमा प्रभास क्षेत्र (सोमनाथ) पहुंचे और शिवजी की शरण में रोते हुए प्रार्थना करने लगे। चंद्रमा का सच्चा पश्चाताप देखकर दयालु भोलेनाथ प्रकट हुए।

'Do not fear, Chandra,' Shiva said gently. 'A sage's word cannot be completely erased, but I shall protect you.' Bending down, Lord Shiva lovingly lifted the frail, silver crescent moon and tucked it into his own matted hair, placing it atop his head like a luminous crown jewel.

'डरो मत, चंद्र,' शिवजी ने प्यार से कहा। 'ऋषि के वचनों को पूरी तरह तो नहीं मिटाया जा सकता, लेकिन मैं तुम्हारी रक्षा करूंगा।' शिवजी ने उस नन्हे अर्धचंद्र को उठाया और अपनी पावन जटाओं में मुकुट की तरह सजा लिया।

Cradled in Shiva's hair, the Moon regained his life. Shiva decreed that the Moon would wane for fifteen days and then wax back to full radiance for fifteen days, reminding the cosmos that light always returns after darkness.

शिवजी की जटाओं का स्पर्श पाते ही चंद्रमा को नया जीवन मिला। शिवजी ने व्यवस्था बनाई कि चंद्रमा पंद्रह दिन घटेगा और फिर पंद्रह दिन बढ़कर पूर्ण रूप पाएगा, जो हमें सिखाता है कि जीवन में अंधकार के बाद उजाला अवश्य लौटता है।
