The King of the Night and the Lord of Kailash

A long time ago, the Moon God, Chandra, was very proud of his beauty. But because of a mistake, he was cursed to lose his light and slowly disappear. Every day, the Moon became smaller and smaller.

बहुत समय पहले, चंद्र देव को अपनी सुंदरता पर बहुत गर्व था। लेकिन एक गलती की वजह से उन्हें अपना प्रकाश खोने और धीरे-धीरे गायब होने का श्राप मिला। हर दिन चंद्रमा छोटा और छोटा होता गया।

Chandra was terrified. He realized that soon there would be no moon in the sky at all! He ran to all the Gods, but no one could help him. Finally, he went to Lord Shiva on Mount Kailash and begged for protection.

चंद्रमा घबरा गया था। उसे एहसास हुआ कि जल्द ही आसमान में बिल्कुल भी चाँद नहीं होगा! वह सभी देवताओं के पास गया, लेकिन कोई उसकी मदद नहीं कर सका। अंत में, वह कैलाश पर्वत पर भगवान शिव के पास गया और सुरक्षा की भीख मांगी।

Lord Shiva is 'Bholenath'—the kind-hearted one. He saw the Moon's sadness and decided to help. But even Shiva couldn't completely remove the curse. So, he did something amazing.

भगवान शिव 'भोलेनाथ' हैं—दयालु। उन्होंने चंद्रमा की उदासी देखी और मदद करने का फैसला किया। लेकिन शिव भी श्राप को पूरी तरह से खत्म नहीं कर सकते थे। इसलिए, उन्होंने कुछ अद्भुत किया।

Shiva took the tiny, fading crescent moon and placed it on his own head. 'Now you are under my protection,' Shiva said. 'Because you are on my head, you will never disappear completely. You will grow for 15 days and then shrink for 15 days, but you will always be safe.'

शिव ने उस छोटे से, मिटते हुए वर्धमान चंद्रमा को लिया और अपने सिर पर रख लिया। 'अब तुम मेरी सुरक्षा में हो,' शिव ने कहा। 'चूंकि तुम मेरे सिर पर हो, तुम कभी भी पूरी तरह से गायब नहीं होगे। तुम 15 दिनों तक बढ़ोगे और फिर 15 दिनों तक घटोगे, लेकिन तुम हमेशा सुरक्षित रहोगे।'

The Moon was so happy! From that day, Shiva is called **Chandrashekhara**, which means 'the one who wears the moon on his head'.

चंद्रमा बहुत खुश हुआ! उस दिन से शिव को **चंद्रशेखर** कहा जाता है, जिसका अर्थ है 'वह जो अपने सिर पर चंद्रमा धारण करता है'।
