Hemanta Ritu (हेमन्त ऋतु), or the Pre-Winter Season, represents dropping temperatures, the accumulation of bodily strength, and the harvesting of winter crops.

During Hemanta, the body's internal heat (Jatharagni) is drawn inward to protect against the external cold, making digestion very strong. People are generally at their healthiest and physically strongest during this time (Visarga Kaal).
