The Gentle Mother of the Earth

In India, you will often see people feeding cows, touching their foreheads with respect, and calling them Gau Mata (Mother Cow). But why is the cow considered so holy compared to other animals?

भारत में, आप अक्सर लोगों को गायों को खाना खिलाते, सम्मान के साथ उनके माथे को छूते और उन्हें गौ माता कहते हुए देखेंगे। लेकिन अन्य जानवरों की तुलना में गाय को इतना पवित्र क्यों माना जाता है?

Think about what a mother does. She feeds her baby milk, takes care of the baby, and gives love without asking for anything in return. The cow does exactly the same thing for the whole world!

सोचिए एक माँ क्या करती है। वह अपने बच्चे को दूध पिलाती है, उसकी देखभाल करती है, और बदले में कुछ भी मांगे बिना प्यार देती है। गाय पूरी दुनिया के लिए बिल्कुल वैसा ही करती है!

Since ancient times, cows have given us highly nutritious milk. From milk, we make curd, butter, and ghee, which make us strong and healthy. The cow gives us all this nourishment just by eating plain green grass!

प्राचीन काल से ही गायें हमें अत्यधिक पौष्टिक दूध देती आई हैं। दूध से हम दही, मक्खन और घी बनाते हैं, जो हमें मजबूत और स्वस्थ बनाते हैं। गाय सिर्फ सादी हरी घास खाकर हमें यह सारा पोषण देती है!

But that's not all. In ancient farming, bulls helped plow the fields to grow crops. Even cow dung was incredibly useful! It was dried and used as cooking fuel, and mixed with mud to keep village houses cool and clean.

लेकिन इतना ही नहीं। प्राचीन खेती में, बैलों ने फसल उगाने के लिए खेतों की जुताई में मदद की। यहां तक कि गाय का गोबर भी अविश्वसनीय रूप से उपयोगी था! इसे सुखाकर खाना पकाने के ईंधन के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जाता था, और गांव के घरों को ठंडा और साफ रखने के लिए मिट्टी के साथ मिलाया जाता था।

Because the cow gives so much to human beings and asks for almost nothing, the ancient Hindus decided she represents Mother Earth herself. Respecting the cow is a way of showing gratitude to the animals and nature that keep us alive.

चूँकि गाय इंसानों को इतना कुछ देती है और बदले में लगभग कुछ नहीं माँगती, इसलिए प्राचीन हिंदुओं ने फैसला किया कि वह स्वयं धरती माता का प्रतिनिधित्व करती है। गाय का सम्मान करना उन जानवरों और प्रकृति के प्रति आभार व्यक्त करने का एक तरीका है जो हमें जीवित रखते हैं।
