The Name of the Invincible One

A long time ago, there was a demon named Durgamasura. He was very cunning. He stole the holy books of knowledge (the Vedas) and used his powers to stop the rain from falling on Earth.

बहुत समय पहले, दुर्गमासुर नाम का एक राक्षस था। वह बहुत चालाक था। उसने ज्ञान की पवित्र पुस्तकें (वेद) चुरा लीं और पृथ्वी पर बारिश को रोकने के लिए अपनी शक्तियों का इस्तेमाल किया।

Because there was no rain, the rivers dried up, the plants died, and everyone was hungry and thirsty. The whole world was in a state of 'Durgati'—which means a very, very difficult time.

चूंकि बारिश नहीं हुई थी, नदियाँ सूख गईं, पौधे मर गए, और हर कोई भूखा और प्यासा था। पूरी दुनिया 'दुर्गति' की स्थिति में थी - जिसका अर्थ है बहुत ही कठिन समय।

The people and the Gods prayed to the Supreme Mother for help. She appeared in a beautiful and strong form. She first brought rain to the Earth using her magical eyes to end the thirst of her children.

लोगों और देवताओं ने मदद के लिए परम माता से प्रार्थना की। वे एक सुंदर और मजबूत रूप में प्रकट हुईं। उन्होंने सबसे पहले अपने बच्चों की प्यास बुझाने के लिए अपनी जादुई आँखों का उपयोग करके पृथ्वी पर वर्षा की।

Then, she went to fight the demon Durgamasura. The battle was long and tough, but the Mother was invincible. She finally defeated the demon and brought back the holy Vedas.

फिर, वह राक्षस दुर्गमासुर से लड़ने गई। युद्ध लंबा और कठिन था, लेकिन माता अपराजेय थीं। उन्होंने अंततः राक्षस को हरा दिया और पवित्र वेदों को वापस ले आईं।

Because she defeated the demon named 'Durga(m)' and saved the world from 'Durgati' (difficulties), everyone started calling her **Maa Durga**. The word 'Durga' means the one who is impossible to defeat and the one who protects us like a strong fort!

क्योंकि उन्होंने 'दुर्गा' (म) नाम के राक्षस को हराया और दुनिया को 'दुर्गति' (कठिनाइयों) से बचाया, इसलिए हर कोई उन्हें **माँ दुर्गा** कहने लगा। 'दुर्गा' शब्द का अर्थ है वह जिसे हराना असंभव है और वह जो एक मजबूत किले की तरह हमारी रक्षा करती है!
