The Ten Hands of Protection

During the joyful festivities of Durga Puja, eight-year-old Ananya held her grandfather's hand as they walked into a brightly lit pandal. Before them stood a magnificent clay idol of Goddess Durga, her face radiant with a calm, gentle smile as she sat upon a majestic golden lion.

दुर्गा पूजा के पावन उत्सव के दौरान, आठ साल की अनन्या अपने दादाजी की उंगली थामे रोशनी से जगमगाते पूजा पंडाल में पहुंची। उनके सामने देवी दुर्गा की एक भव्य और दिव्य प्रतिमा खड़ी थी, जो एक तेजस्वी सुनहरे सिंह पर सवार होकर शांत मुस्कान बिखेर रही थी।

Ananya tilted her head, counting with her finger. 'One, two, three... Dadaji, look! Maa Durga has ten arms holding a trident, a lotus, a conch, a bow, and shining weapons! We only have two hands. Why does she need ten?'

अनन्या ने अपनी उंगली से गिनना शुरू किया। 'एक, दो, तीन... दादाजी, देखिये! मां दुर्गा के दस हाथ हैं जिनमें त्रिशूल, कमल, शंख, धनुष और चमकदार अस्त्र-शस्त्र हैं! हमारे पास तो सिर्फ दो हाथ होते हैं। उन्हें दस हाथों की क्या जरूरत है?'

Dadaji smiled warmly and knelt beside her. 'Look around you, Ananya. In our world, there are ten directions: North, South, East, West, the four corners between them, and the sky above and the earth below. Maa Durga is the loving Mother of the Universe. With her ten hands, she watches over and protects all her children from every single direction at once!'

दादाजी मुस्कुराए और उसके पास बैठ गए। 'अनन्या, हमारी दुनिया में दस दिशाएं होती हैं: पूर्व, पश्चिम, उत्तर, दक्षिण, चारों कोने, ऊपर आकाश और नीचे धरती। मां दुर्गा पूरे संसार की ममतामयी माता हैं। अपने दस हाथों से वे हर दिशा से आने वाले संकटों से अपने बच्चों की रक्षा करती हैं!'

'And think about your own mother,' Dadaji continued with a twinkle in his eye. 'At home, doesn't she feel like she has ten hands? She cooks breakfast, ties your shoelaces, helps you with homework, drives you to school, and hugs you when you're sad! Just like that, Goddess Durga’s ten hands represent the boundless forms of love, courage, knowledge, and protection she showers upon the world.'

'और अपनी मां को ही देखो,' दादाजी ने प्यार से समझाया। 'घर पर क्या वे दस हाथों जैसी नहीं लगतीं? वे सुबह खाना बनाती हैं, तुम्हारे जूते के फीते बांधती हैं, पढ़ाई कराती हैं और दुखी होने पर तुम्हें गले लगाती हैं! ठीक वैसे ही मां दुर्गा के दस हाथ प्रेम, साहस, ज्ञान और शक्ति के अनगिनत रूपों का प्रतीक हैं।'

Ananya looked back at the divine idol. The ten hands no longer seemed strange; they looked like a grand, loving shield ready to embrace and protect the entire world.

अनन्या ने उस दिव्य प्रतिमा को फिर से देखा। अब वे दस हाथ उसे अजीब नहीं लगे; वे उसे पूरी दुनिया को अपनी ममता और सुरक्षा में समेटने वाले एक विशाल रक्षक आंचल जैसे लगे।
