The Secret of the Hurt Cat

On a bright, sunny afternoon on Mount Kailash, little Ganesha was playing in the palace gardens. As he ran through the flowering bushes, a little fluffy cat padded across the stone terrace, purring softly.

कैलाश पर्वत पर खिली एक सुनहरी दोपहर में, छोटे गणेश राजमहल के बगीचे में खेल रहे थे। जब वे फूलों की झाड़ियों के बीच दौड़ रहे थे, तभी एक छोटी सी बिल्ली पत्थर के चबूतरे पर म्याऊं-म्याऊं करती हुई आई।

Filled with playful mischief, Ganesha chased the cat, gently pulled its fluffy tail, and playfully rolled it in the dust. The startled cat let out a plaintive meow and scampered away into the bushes. Ganesha giggled, thinking it was just a harmless game, and ran inside for lunch.

चुलबुले स्वभाव के कारण गणेशजी उसके पीछे दौड़े, उसकी पूंछ खींची और खेल-खेल में उसे धूल में लुढ़का दिया। बिल्ली डरकर झाड़ियों में भाग गई। गणेशजी इसे बस एक खेल समझकर हंसे और दोपहर के भोजन के लिए महल के अंदर चले गए।

When Ganesha entered the inner chambers, he found Mata Parvati resting on her seat. But to his shock, she had a scratch on her cheek, dust smeared across her saree, and marks on her arms.

जब गणेशजी भीतर पहुंचे, तो उन्होंने माता पार्वती को आसन पर बैठे देखा। लेकिन यह देखकर वे चौंक गए कि माता के गाल पर खरोंच थी, उनकी साड़ी पर धूल लगी थी और उनके हाथों पर चोट के निशान थे।

Ganesha ran to her, his large eyes wide with worry. 'Ma! Who hurt you? Who dared to scratch your cheek and throw dust on your saree?'

गणेशजी दौड़कर उनके पास पहुंचे, उनकी आंखें चिंता से भर आईं। 'मां! आपको किसने चोट पहुंचाई? किसकी इतनी हिम्मत हुई कि आपके गाल पर खरोंच लगाई और साड़ी पर धूल डाली?'

Mata Parvati looked down at him with gentle, sorrowful eyes. 'You did, my little son.'

माता पार्वती ने उदास आंखों से उनकी ओर देखा। 'यह सब तुमने किया है, मेरे प्यारे पुत्र।'

Ganesha gasped, stepping back in disbelief. 'Me? I would never harm you, Ma! I was playing in the garden the whole afternoon!'

गणेशजी पीछे हट गए, उन्हें अपने कानों पर विश्वास नहीं हुआ। 'मैंने? मां, मैं आपको कभी चोट कैसे पहुंचा सकता हूँ! मैं तो दोपहर भर बगीचे में खेल रहा था!'

Mata Parvati gently lifted Ganesha onto her lap. 'Ganesha, I am not just this form sitting before you. I am the Divine Mother, residing inside every living creature in this vast universe. When you pulled that little cat's tail and rolled it in the dust, your unkindness hurt me directly.'

माता पार्वती ने गणेशजी को अपनी गोद में बिठाया। 'गणेश, मैं केवल तुम्हारे सामने बैठी यह मूरत नहीं हूँ। मैं जगत-जननी हूँ, जो इस सृष्टि के हर जीव में वास करती हूँ। जब तुमने उस नन्हीं बिल्ली को सताया और धूल में गिराया, तो वह चोट सीधे मुझे लगी।'

Ganesha's heart sank with deep remorse. Tears rolled down his cheeks, and he buried his face in her lap. 'Forgive me, Ma. I promise never to harm any creature again.'

गणेशजी का दिल पछतावे से भर गया। उनकी आंखों से आंसू बह निकले और वे माता के आंचल में छिप गए। 'मुझे क्षमा कर दीजिए मां। मैं वादा करता हूँ कि कभी किसी जीव को नहीं सताऊंगा।'

'Remember this forever, my child,' Mata Parvati whispered, wiping his tears with her saree. 'Whatever kindness or cruelty you show to any animal, bird, or human, you are showing it to God.'

'इसे हमेशा याद रखना, मेरे बच्चे,' माता पार्वती ने उनकी आंखें पोंछते हुए कहा। 'तुम किसी भी पशु, पक्षी या इंसान के प्रति जो दया या कठोरता दिखाते हो, वह सीधे ईश्वर तक पहुंचती है।'
