The Secret of the Red Hibiscus

On a dewy morning before the arrival of Ganesh Chaturthi, eight-year-old Devika walked through her grandmother's garden with a brass basket. The garden was brimming with sweet-scented white jasmines, delicate pink roses, and golden marigolds.

गणेश चतुर्थी से पहले की एक सुहानी सुबह, आठ साल की देविका अपनी दादी के साथ पीतल की टोकरी लेकर बगीचे में आई। पूरा बगीचा सुगंधित चमेली, गुलाबी गुलाब और सुनहरे गेंदे के फूलों से महक रहा था।

Devika was about to pluck a bunch of fragrant pink roses when Dadi gently guided her hand toward a vibrant red Hibiscus bush blooming near the courtyard wall.

देविका खुशबूदार गुलाब की डाल छूने ही वाली थी कि दादी ने उसका हाथ दीवार के पास खिले चमकीले लाल गुड़हल (हिबिस्कस) की झाड़ी की ओर बढ़ा दिया।

'Let us pick these bright red flowers for Bappa, Devika,' Dadi said with a warm smile.

'आओ देविका, बाप्पा के लिए ये सुंदर लाल गुड़हल के फूल चुनते हैं,' दादी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा।

Devika looked puzzled. 'Dadi, roses have such a sweet perfume, and jasmines smell so lovely. The red Hibiscus has almost no fragrance at all! Why does Lord Ganesha love this red flower above all others?'

देविका सोच में पड़ गई। 'दादी, गुलाब और चमेली में कितनी मीठी खुशबू होती है। गुड़हल में तो कोई महक ही नहीं होती! फिर भगवान गणेश को यह लाल फूल इतना ज्यादा क्यों पसंद है?'

Dadi gently plucked a magnificent red blossom and placed it in Devika's palm. 'Look at its fiery color, Devika. In Sanatan wisdom, bright red represents pure energy, strength, and life. Ganesha is the Lord who gives us courage and enthusiasm to begin new tasks. His vibrant energy matches the fiery crimson of this flower.'

दादी ने एक खिला हुआ लाल फूल तोड़ा और देविका की हथेली पर रख दिया। 'इसके गहरे लाल रंग को देखो, देविका। सनातन धर्म में लाल रंग ऊर्जा, शक्ति और उत्साह का प्रतीक है। गणेशजी हमें नए काम शुरू करने का साहस और बल देते हैं। उनकी दिव्य ऊर्जा इस लाल फूल के रंग से मेल खाती है।'

'And look at how it blossoms,' Dadi continued, pointing to the flower's graceful shape. 'It opens its petals completely wide to the morning sky, offering itself without holding anything back. It has no pride or heavy perfume to boast of—just pure, honest, radiant simplicity.'

'और इसकी बनावट को देखो,' दादी ने फूल की ओर इशारा करते हुए समझाया। 'यह आसमान की ओर अपनी पंखुड़ियां पूरी तरह खोलकर खिलता है, जैसे खुद को भगवान को समर्पित कर रहा हो। इसमें कोई घमंड या दिखावा नहीं है—बस सादगी, पवित्रता और सच्चा समर्पण है।'

Devika smiled, feeling the velvety red petals. 'So when we offer a red hibiscus to Bappa, we are offering our own bright energy and sincere love, without any show-off?'

देविका मुस्कुराई और कोमल पंखुड़ियों को सहलाया। 'तो जब हम बाप्पा को गुड़हल चढ़ाते हैं, तो हम बिना किसी दिखावे के अपना सच्चा प्रेम और उत्साह उन्हें अर्पित करते हैं?'

'Exactly, my dear,' Dadi beamed. Devika placed three perfect red blossoms into the center of her basket, eager to decorate Ganpati Bappa's altar with honest devotion.
