Mooshak: The Little Friend of a Big God

Long ago, the heavens were troubled by a giant demon named Gajamukhasura. Through years of fierce penance, he had obtained a boastful boon: no weapon made of stone, wood, or metal could ever harm or defeat him.

बहुत समय पहले, गजमुखासुर नाम के एक विशाल असुर ने तीनों लोकों में हाहाकार मचा रखा था। कठिन तपस्या करके उसने एक वरदान पा लिया था कि पत्थर, लकड़ी या धातु से बना कोई भी अस्त्र-शस्त्र उसे मार नहीं सकेगा।

Swollen with arrogance, the demon began harassing the sages and disrupting the peace of the three worlds. Desperate for protection, the gods turned to little Ganesha for help.

अहंकार में चूर होकर वह संतों को सताने लगा और चारों ओर अशांति फैला दी। कोई उपाय न देखकर सभी देवता रक्षा के लिए छोटे गणेश के पास पहुंचे।

Ganesha went forth to confront the raging giant. Gajamukhasura hurled heavy swords, iron maces, and fiery arrows, but Ganesha deflected them effortlessly with his lotus hands. Remembering the demon's unique boon, Ganesha reached up, snapped off a piece of his own ivory tusk, charged it with divine power, and cast it at the tyrant.

गणेशजी उस विशाल असुर का सामना करने पहुंचे। गजमुखासुर ने भारी तलवारें और गदाएं चलाईं, लेकिन गणेशजी ने अपने कोमल हाथों से उन्हें आसानी से रोक दिया। असुर के वरदान को याद करते हुए, गणेशजी ने अपना एक दांत तोड़ा, उसमें दिव्य शक्ति भरी और उस अत्याचारी पर चला दिया।

The tusk struck Gajamukhasura with tremendous force. Realizing his physical power was broken, the crafty demon transformed himself into a tiny mouse to scurry away into the dark crevices of the earth.

उस दांत के प्रहार से गजमुखासुर की शक्ति बिखर गई। अपनी हार को देखकर वह चालाक असुर एक नन्हा चूहा बनकर धरती की दरारों में भागने लगा।

Ganesha simply smiled. He threw his magical noose, gently catching the scampering creature by its tail and pulling it close.

गणेशजी मुस्कुराए। उन्होंने अपना पाश फेंका और भागते हुए चूहे को पूंछ से पकड़कर अपने पास खींच लिया।

The trembling mouse bowed before Ganesha, shedding all its cruelty and pride. 'Lord, forgive my arrogance,' the little creature pleaded. 'Let me serve you forever.'

कांपते हुए चूहे ने गणेशजी के आगे सिर झुका दिया और उसका सारा घमंड व क्रूरता मिट गई। 'प्रभु, मेरी अज्ञानता को क्षमा करें,' उसने विनती की। 'मुझे सदा अपनी सेवा में रख लें।'

Ganesha, full of compassion, patted the mouse's head. 'From this day forward, you shall be my loyal companion and mount, named Mooshak. You will remind the world that even the smallest being has a sacred purpose, and that wisdom can tame the wild, restless ego.'

गणेशजी ने करुणा से चूहे के सिर पर हाथ रखा। 'आज से तुम मूषक कहलाओगे और मेरे प्रिय वाहन बनोगे। तुम संसार को यह सिखाओगे कि सबसे छोटे जीव का भी अपना महत्व होता है, और ज्ञान से चंचल मन व अहंकार को वश में किया जा सकता है।'
