The Miracle of the Stormy Night

In the ancient city of Mathura, a dark pall hung over the land. The cruel and tyrannical King Kansa had usurped the throne, throwing his own sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva into the deepest, darkest dungeon guarded by fierce demonic sentries.

मथुरा की प्राचीन नगरी पर क्रूर राजा कंस के अत्याचारों का साया था। उसने अपने ही पिता को बंदी बनाकर राजगद्दी छीन ली थी और अपनी बहन देवकी व बहनोई वसुदेव को कालकोठरी में लोहे की जंजीरों में जकड़ रखा था।

A heavenly voice had prophesied that Devaki's eighth child would bring an end to Kansa’s reign of terror. Fearful of his doom, Kansa kept an eagle eye on the prison cell, placing heavy iron locks upon the thick iron doors.

एक आकाशवाणी ने भविष्यवाणी की थी कि देवकी की आठवीं संतान कंस के पापों का अंत करेगी। अपनी मौत के डर से कंस ने उस कालकोठरी पर कड़ा पहरा लगा रखा था और भारी ताले जड़ दिए थे।

On the midnight of the eighth day of the waning moon in the month of Bhadrapada (Janmashtami), the skies turned pitch-black. A ferocious monsoon storm broke out; thunder roared like shattering rocks and blinding sheets of rain flooded the streets.

भाद्रपद मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी की आधी रात को घनघोर घटाएं घिर आईं। भयंकर तूफान आया, बिजली कड़कने लगी और मूसलाधार बारिश से धरती जलमग्न हो गई।

At that stroke of midnight, in the dark dungeon, Lord Krishna was born! The damp stone room filled with a warm, celestial blue light, and the divine child radiated peace, wearing a garland of wild blossoms and a serene smile.

ठीक आधी रात को कालकोठरी में भगवान कृष्ण का जन्म हुआ! वह अंधेरा कमरा एक दिव्य नीली रोशनी से जगमगा उठा, और नवजात शिशु के मुख पर एक शांत, मनमोहक मुस्कान थी।

Suddenly, miraculous wonders unfolded. The heavy iron chains fell from Vasudeva's wrists, the giant barred gates swung open, and all the demon guards collapsed into an enchanted, deep sleep. A divine voice instructed Vasudeva: 'Take me across the Yamuna river to Gokul, to the home of Nanda and Yashoda.'

तभी अद्भुत चमत्कार हुए। वसुदेव के हाथों की बेड़ियां अपने आप खुल गईं, लोहे के भारी दरवाजे खुल गए और सारे पहरेदार गहरी नींद में सो गए। एक दिव्य आकाशवाणी ने कहा: 'मुझे तुरंत यमुना पार गोकुल में नंदबाबा और यशोदा के घर पहुंचा दो।'

Placing baby Krishna inside a woven wicker basket on his head, Vasudeva stepped out into the raging rain. When he reached the river Yamuna, the waters were roaring in dangerous flood waves. But as soon as baby Krishna's lotus foot brushed the water, the river calmed, parting its waves to create a safe path, while the great serpent Sheshanaga spread his multiple hoods like an umbrella over the baby to protect him from the storm.

नन्हे कृष्ण को टोकरी में रखकर वसुदेव ने उसे अपने सिर पर उठाया और तूफानी रात में निकल पड़े। यमुना नदी उफान पर थी, लेकिन जैसे ही नन्हे कृष्ण के चरण जल से छुए, नदी शांत हो गई और उसने रास्ता दे दिया। महानाग शेषनाग ने अपने फनों से छत्र बनाकर बालक को बारिश से बचाया।

Vasudeva reached Gokul safely and swapped the babies, ensuring the divine child’s safety. The dark night gave way to a dawn of hope, teaching us that no matter how terrifying the storm or how strong the chains of injustice seem, truth and righteousness will always find a way to be born.

वसुदेव सुरक्षित गोकुल पहुंचे और बालक को यशोदा के पास सुला दिया। वह अंधेरी रात आशा की एक नई भोर में बदल गई, जो हमें सिखाती है कि बुराई की दीवारें चाहे कितनी भी मजबूत क्यों न हों, सत्य और धर्म का प्रकाश हमेशा रास्ता खोज ही लेता है।
