Gopala: The Protector of Cows

In the gentle, flowering pastures of Vrindavan, wealth was not counted in chests of gold or stacks of coins. A family's true fortune was measured by the health, love, and bounty of their sacred cows.

वृंदावन के सुंदर, फूलों से भरे चरागाहों में, धन-दौलत को सोने के संदूकों या सिक्कों से नहीं नापा जाता था। वहां किसी परिवार की असली संपत्ति उनकी गौ माताओं के स्वास्थ्य, प्रेम और दूध से नापी जाती थी।

Little Krishna cherished the cows more than any treasure in the universe. Every morning, as the dew sparkled on the blades of grass, he would lead hundreds of gentle white cows out to graze, accompanied by his brother Balarama and the cowherd boys.

छोटे कृष्ण को इन गायों से संसार के किसी भी खजाने से अधिक प्रेम था। हर सुबह जब घास पर ओस की बूंदें चमकती थीं, वे अपने भाई बलराम और ग्वाल-बालों के साथ सैकड़ों गायों को चराने के लिए जंगल ले जाते थे।

Krishna had a unique, sweet name for every single cow—Dhavali, Ganga, Rohini, and Pisangi. Whenever he placed his bamboo flute to his lips and played a soft, melodious call, the grazing cows would perk up their ears, leave their sweet grass, and come bounding toward him, nuzzling their velvety noses against his cheeks.

कृष्ण ने हर गाय का एक प्यारा सा नाम रखा था—धवली, गंगा, रोहिणी और पिशंगी। जब भी वे बांसुरी पर एक विशेष तान छेड़ते, तो चरती हुई गायें अपने कान खड़े कर लेतीं और घास छोड़कर दौड़ती हुई उनके पास आ जातीं, और अपने कोमल मुंह से उनके गालों को चूमने लगतीं।

In the sacred Sanskrit language, Go means the gentle cow, and Pala means the loving protector, guardian, and friend. Because Krishna protected, cleaned, and tended to every cow with unconditional affection, the world lovingly titled him Gopala.

संस्कृत में, गो का अर्थ है गाय, और पाल का अर्थ है पालन करने वाला, रक्षक और मित्र। चूंकि कृष्ण हर गाय की सेवा एक सच्चे सखा और रक्षक की तरह करते थे, इसलिए संसार ने उन्हें बड़े प्रेम से गोपाल नाम दिया।

Krishna showed that a true leader is not someone who sits high on a golden throne commanding others, but someone who bends down with humility to nurture, protect, and love the gentlest and most innocent beings of the earth.

कृष्ण ने सिखाया कि सच्चा राजा वह नहीं होता जो ऊंचे सिंहासन पर बैठकर हुक्म चलाए, बल्कि वह होता है जो विनम्रता से धरती के सबसे निर्दोष और मूक प्राणियों की सेवा और रक्षा करे।
