The Promise of a Prince

Lord Rama was the eldest and most loved prince of Ayodhya. His father, King Dasharatha, decided to make him the new King. The whole city was celebrating and decorating their houses.

भगवान राम अयोध्या के सबसे बड़े और सबसे प्रिय राजकुमार थे। उनके पिता, राजा दशरथ ने उन्हें नया राजा बनाने का फैसला किया। पूरा शहर जश्न मना रहा था और अपने घरों को सजा रहा था।

But Rama's stepmother, Queen Kaikeyi, became jealous. Many years ago, the King had promised her two boons (wishes) to use whenever she wanted. Now, she asked for them.

लेकिन राम की सौतेली माँ, रानी कैकेयी को ईर्ष्या होने लगी। कई साल पहले, राजा ने उन्हें जब चाहे तब उपयोग करने के लिए दो वरदान (इच्छाएं) देने का वादा किया था। अब, उसने उन्हें मांगा।

Her first wish was to make her own son, Bharata, the King instead of Rama. Her second wish was terrible: she wanted Rama to be sent away to live in the dangerous forest for 14 years!

उनकी पहली इच्छा राम के बजाय अपने स्वयं के बेटे, भरत को राजा बनाने की थी। उनकी दूसरी इच्छा भयानक थी: वह चाहती थी कि राम को 14 साल के लिए खतरनाक जंगल में रहने के लिए दूर भेज दिया जाए!

King Dasharatha was heartbroken and cried bitterly. He didn't want his favorite son to go. But Lord Rama smiled peacefully. He knew that a King must always keep his promises.

राजा दशरथ का दिल टूट गया और वे फूट-फूट कर रोने लगे। वह नहीं चाहते थे कि उनका पसंदीदा बेटा जाए। लेकिन भगवान राम शांति से मुस्कुराए। वह जानते थे कि एक राजा को हमेशा अपने वादे निभाने चाहिए।

Rama happily gave up his crown and his royal clothes. To honor his father's word, he walked out of the golden palace and into the forest. His loving wife, Sita, and loyal brother, Lakshmana, went with him.

राम ने खुशी-खुशी अपना मुकुट और अपने शाही कपड़े त्याग दिए। अपने पिता के वचन का सम्मान करने के लिए, वह सोने के महल से बाहर निकलकर जंगल में चले गए। उनकी प्यारी पत्नी, सीता और वफादार भाई, लक्ष्मण भी उनके साथ गए।
