The Secret of the Grey Dust

In the heavens, all the other Gods wear beautiful clothes made of silk and gold. They use sweet-smelling perfumes and expensive jewelry. But Lord Shiva is different. He takes the cold, grey ash from a fire and smears it all over his body!

स्वर्ग में, अन्य सभी देवता रेशम और सोने से बने सुंदर कपड़े पहनते हैं। वे मीठी महक वाले इत्र और महंगे गहनों का उपयोग करते हैं। लेकिन भगवान शिव अलग हैं। वे आग से ठंडी, भूरी राख लेते हैं और उसे अपने पूरे शरीर पर मल लेते हैं!

People asked, 'Mahadev, why do you wear this dust?' Shiva replied, 'This ash is a reminder. Everything in this world—trees, flowers, and even our bodies—will one day turn to ash. Only the soul inside is forever.'

लोगों ने पूछा, 'महादेव, आप यह धूल क्यों पहनते हैं?' शिव ने उत्तर दिया, 'यह राख एक याद दिलाती है। इस दुनिया की हर चीज़—पेड़, फूल और यहाँ तक कि हमारा शरीर भी—एक दिन राख में बदल जाएगा। केवल अंदर की आत्मा ही हमेशा के लिए है।'

By wearing ash, Shiva shows that he is not proud of his body or his looks. He doesn't care about being 'cool' or 'pretty' on the outside. He only cares about being pure and kind on the inside.

राख पहनकर, शिव दिखाते हैं कि उन्हें अपने शरीर या अपने रूप पर गर्व नहीं है। उन्हें बाहर से 'कूल' या 'सुंदर' दिखने की परवाह नहीं है। उन्हें केवल अंदर से शुद्ध और दयालु होने की परवाह है।

The three lines of ash on his forehead also represent burning away three things: Pride, Anger, and Selfishness. When we let go of these, we become as pure as the holy ash!

उनके माथे पर राख की तीन रेखाएँ तीन चीज़ों को जलाने का भी प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं: गर्व, क्रोध और स्वार्थ। जब हम इन्हें छोड़ देते हैं, तो हम पवित्र राख की तरह शुद्ध हो जाते हैं!
